I produced video news stories streamed to almost 2,000 Web sites, a mobile app and transmitted to broadcasters worldwide. I was involved in every stage of the process, from story pitching to writing to shooting/editing and preparing for air. I also appeared on camera, voiced stories and did newsmaker interviews. I contributed to AP Radio. My reporting took me around the country and to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
I was a general assignment and enterprise reporter, developing expertise in marrying print reporting with video. As the paper's first multimedia reporter, I coached colleagues in video storytelling. I reported on local government, transportation, growth/development, education, and law enforcement. And I did stints in the newsroom of WFAA-TV (Channel 8), the ABC station in Dallas/Fort Worth owned by the parent company of The News.
I tell stories on screens through pictures and sound. Sometimes, I use words on paper. I am my own photographer, producer, reporter and video editor, going wherever the story takes me. Usually, it is on the road across the country - or the world. I travel extensively and problem-solve in the field, delivering original stories to digital audiences at washingtonpost.com and two apps.
Covered local school districts plus two local community colleges, with a focus on enterprise reporting. Anchored coverage of a record-setting bond election that included a new high school. Assisted in general assignment and feature reporting duties at the Gannett-owned daily. Also co-hosted newsmakers interview program at local CBS affiliate WSAW-TV (Channel 7).

I held leadership roles at the campus newspaper, including as editor in chief. On weekends, I traveled nationally to compete with the college's debate team. During the academic year, I interned in the newsroom of WBBM-TV, the CBS owned-and-operated station in Chicago. Other internships included the Washington bureaus of Hearst Broadcasting and NBC News - "Dateline NBC," as well as in New Mexico at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
